Many MCA leaders have over the last few days issued statements on Pas’s intention to table a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament on hudud and they have made most irresponsible attacks on DAP.
However, their attacks on the DAP are mere lies and slander because DAP‘s position on the question of hudud has always been very clear and consistent. Our position is that it is unconstitutional and is not suitable for a multi racial Malaysia.
We are a principled party and will uphold our principles, unlike MCA which is prepared to be a political chameleon for political survival.
MCA may want to conveniently forget that it supported Tun Mahathir’s unilateral declaration in September 2001 that Malaysia is an Islamic state, but the people will never forget the historical “sell out” by the MCA.
DAP has strongly opposed Mahathir’s declaration and we have stated our clear stand – we do not support the formation of an Islamic state in Malaysia, whether ala PAS or Umno.
With the Prime Minister’s recent revelation that the federal government has never rejected the implementation of hudud, MCA must declare what is its stand and what it will do if UMNO decides to support hudud in Parliament.
As Najib actually said Federal government has never rejected hudud, MCA President Datuk Liow Tiong Lai must also explain the real MCA stand on the implementation of hudud.
MCA must also stop make baseless lies and attacks on DAP to divert public attention from its failure to respond to the Prime Minister’s revelation.
Obviously, MCA’s silence is not only because they have never had the courage to face up to Umno, but also they are afraid of losing the chance to rejoin the Cabinet.
DAP’s position that hudud is unconstitutional is clear and uncompromising, whether it is made in internal Pakatan Rakyat meetings or in our public statements.
