MCA, whether in or out of the Cabinet, is a disappointing party that cannot speak up boldly in the people’s interest

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom had on March 27, 2014 in Parliament challenged PAS to table a private member’s Bill on hudud in Parliament.

Yesterday in response to my criticism that MCA had failed to register its strong protest in the Cabinet against Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom’s challenge which has hence led to today’s RUU355, MCA publicity bureau chairman Datuk Chai Kim Sen has said that MCA was not in the Cabinet then.

It is irresponsible and shameful that MCA has used such an excuse for failing to lodge a protest against Jamil Khir.

Can the MCA provide satisfactory answers to the following 3 questions:-

  1. Even when MCA was not in the Cabinet, it was in BN and had 7 Members of Parliament. Why could not they send a protest memorandum to the Prime Minister or the Cabinet? Why could not MCA MPs speak up in Parliament? Was the absence of protest due to MCA’s fear that their chances of returning to Cabinet would be affected?
  2. After MCA had rejoined the Cabinet in June 2014, why did the MCA Ministers fail to register their protest? Was there a rule that forbids Cabinet ministers from raising an issue which has happened about three months ago?
  3. After MCA had rejoined the Cabinet, further development on Hadi Awang’s private member’s Bill took place. Last year it was given special way to be tabled in Parliament, then this year Jamil Khir had attended PAS’s RUU355 rally and recently the RU355 was taken over by the federal government. So what is MCA’s new excuse?

It is therefore clear that whether MCA is in or out of the Cabinet, it is a disappointing party that cannot speak up boldly in the people’s interest.

MCA has been blaming DAP for making PAS stronger and has been spreading lie that DAP should be held responsible for PAS’s hudud law.

The truth is so crystal clear, without cooperation and support from UMNO; Hadi Awang’s private member’s Bill could never come up in the Parliament agenda.

Without UMNO’s support, there will not be RUU355. It is hence nonsensical that MCA is putting the blame on DAP.
