Media Statement by MP of Bandar Kuching, Dr.Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen on 8th January 2024

Critics of any Minister in the government should scrutinize them for their policy direction and performances in their Ministry and not focus on menial and divisive things such as their right to eat and drink non-halal items which clearly malicious with intent to divide our multicultural & multi-religious society.

Whether such act was done or not, as long as it does not interfere with the Minister’s capacity to work and carry out his duties, it shouldn’t be up for debate.

They should be a responsible opposition and raised up legitimate issues of public interest especially when it comes to his or her performance in the government and the policies they are bringing to the people.

That is constructive criticism and the check and balance that every healthy democracy needs rather than a failed opposition that only plays on issues to divide a multicultural Malaysia and even plots to overthrow a legitimate government.

Such act must be condemn as they are only thinking of power and personal gain rather than the good of the country where such plots will only brings all kinds of instability which is not good for economic growth and to instill international confidence in our country.

If we are too caught up in divisive and extreme sentiments such as this, how are we going to move forward and focus on more important things such as the welfare of the people, jobs and the economy.
