Apology for purportingly interfering into Islamic Affairs
I refer to my media statement dated 28th December 2023 where I suggested that non Muslims as well as a member of the Bar who are Constitutional experts be also appointed as members of the committee studying how to harmonise the Syariah law and the Federal Constitution. I expect the process will include proposals to amend the Federal Constitution. My suggestion is to ensure that all views are taken into account before any constitutional amendment proposal is made.
As it has been now clarified that the special committee was formed by the National Islamic Affairs Council headed by His Royal Highness Sultan Selangor which I was not aware earlier, I hereby withdraw my proposal and tender my sincere apology.
I have no intention whatsoever to interfere into Islamic affairs.
