Merakyatkan transisi hijau

1. Thank you Mr KH Lim, Executive Chairman of Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd, for
inviting me to this launch. I would also like to acknowledge the presence of Y.M. Tunku Akmaludin Zakri bin Tunku Dato’ Zuhri, Deputy President of MPIA, and Dr. Wei-nee Chen, Head of Carbon Market at Bursa Malaysia.

2. I applaud Senheng’s effort in popularising solar solutions, helping owners to adopt solar solutions without much upfront costs.

3. I am also pleased to see Senheng’s partnerships with Canadian Solar, Panasonic, and BSL Eco Energy.

4. Climate change is not going to go away and it will remain a major challenge the world will have to grapple with in the decades to come.

5. The Government of Malaysia under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified Malaysia’s net zero commitment from “as early as 2050” to “reaching net zero by 2050”. It is a significant pledge.

6. One of the key documents guiding the current government is the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which aspires to align capitals, finances, and green transition.

7. Malaysia is in a sweet spot: Malaysia has a very significant presence of global producers of solar panels, such as First Solar and Longi, among others; and Malaysia, in general, has abundance of sunshine. We must do more on the battery storage part of the equation. Nonetheless, very few countries outside the United States, China and Europe have already a significant solar panel supply chain.

8. The solar panel producers in Malaysia used to only focus on the United States market. But it is now time to use their Malaysian capacity to deliver green transition in Malaysia and Southeast Asia at an affordable rate.

9. Malaysia should use the sweet spot we are in, ie the manufacturing capacity and the sunshine, to speed up on popularising the adoption of household solar solutions, hastening the pace of green transition.

10. I hope that we will soon adopt a mentality of “merakyatkan transisi hijau”, to make it for the masses, or the ordinary people, to adopt solar solutions and many other green technologies. There is so much we could do to change through adoption of green technologies.

Thank you.
