Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department YB Senator Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan should stop defend the indefensible.
The fact that both police investigation and an internal MACC probe found no element of criminal culpability only reaffirms the belief that police and MACC cannot be trusted to investigate the wrongdoings of their own kind.
Even the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the death of Teoh Beng Hock found in 2011 that there was a “blue wall of silence came amply into play as evidenced by the untruths spouted by MACC officers to cover up the nefarious activities that took place on the 15th and the 16th of July, 2009”. [para 362 of RCI Report]
Paul Low should feel ashamed that despite the findings of RCI, his Department has failed to take any action against any MACC officers. If this is not a cover up, what is?
And now, Court of Appeal on September 5 found that the death of Teoh Beng Hock was caused by “an unlawful act or acts of person unknown, inclusive of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers involved in the arrest and investigation of the deceased”.
So what is the stance of Paul Low? Does he still insist that the internal MACC probe was thorough, impartial and sufficient? Because if he is still of the view that none of the MACC officers had done anything wrong in the interrogation of Teoh Beng Hock, then is he saying that the three judges who have decided otherwise on September 5 are idiots and have defamed his men?
