I would like to congratulate Mr Tommy Thomas on his appointment as the Attorney General of Malaysia. He bears the heavy responsibility of leading the Attorney General’s Chambers into a new chapter, clearing the ambiguities and confusions of the past.
I wish for him wisdom as he handles the many things on his plate. There will be repeals on laws passed by the previous regime and others which need to be improved. His leadership will play an important role in the prosecution of 1MDB wrongdoers and the recovery of the money from around the globe. His advice will also be sought to study unfair contracts signed by the previous government.
I wish for him support and cooperation from his new colleagues at the Attorney General’s Chambers. May they welcome him and work with him as he leads them into a new era to restore their damaged reputation. And may the Prime Minister’s Office give him full support to deal with recalcitrant subordinates.
I wish him the courage to continue to do what is right. I have full faith that he will do so without fear or favour especially given his track record of taking on cases against the BN-led government in the past. Courage will be needed as he plays his role as the principal legal advisor to the Government of Malaysia, unlike his predecessor who was confused and misguided, acting like a personal lawyer to the Prime Minister instead of the country.
And I wish him and his team success. When the Attorney General and his chambers does what is right, the country is in good hands.
