Party-hopping after losing power is politically immoral

To my saudara YB Razali Idris, Terengganu Bersatu chief,

100% contrary to your statement that DAP is worried of Malay-Muslim voices to become stronger in Parliament, we are supportive for more MPs regardless of race, to be chosen from PH by the rakyat. After all the more the merrier!

As much as I respect the Freedom of Association, party-hopping after losing power is politically immoral. I believe my two coalition leaders, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal who risked everything including the welfare of their families in going against Umno when Najib was the prime minister, understand our position. When you, a strongman of UMNO Marang, left the party to join Bersatu, you too faced all kinds of hardship and accusation from people aligned with UMNO.

I address you as saudara as we are rakan seperjuangan. This is not a Malay-Muslim vs the non Malay-Muslim battle. It is a very dangerous route to contemplate as this will infer that Bersatu has no qualms about joining hands with PAS and UMNO, and I believe that is not your intention. We have seen the destructive hands of UMNO at work in 1MDB, Tabung Haji. Felda, Felcra and whatever else they could get their hands on, and we never want that to happen again. We are all on the Pakatan Harapan side, building the nation and making it a better country for our children and grandchildren to inherit.

Do recognise who your rakan seperjuangan are, and who your fair-weather friends are. DAP stood by Bersatu when things were against us, and will continue to stand by Bersatu as we govern the country. These lompat parti frogs would have stood by and watched as UMNO persecuted those who left the party, should they have won GE14. And their entry to Harapan is not just a matter of allowing these fair-weather friends in. As they are willing to dump the party after a loss, you should also know they are people who cannot be trusted when times are bad, and will do anything to gain power.

My dear saudara YB Razali, would you embrace Najib in open arms if he fills up Bersatu membership application form tomorrow? The people had voted the BN government out in GE14. Acceptance of frogs would be a betrayal to the people. Accepting party hoppers should be an exception, not a norm, and never something to be embraced whole heartedly and celebrated. A party build through people who were there through all the hardship will grow to be a better and stronger party than one where people joined because of the goodies dished out.

Thank you.

Lim Lip Eng
Your humble rakan seperjuangan
