The recent visit by PM Najib Razak to Sabah is nothing but a political gimmick for his own survival, and no new good hopes for Sabah have come up from the visit
In my view, Sabahans were shamed by Najib persistent announcement that Sabah would remain the fix deposit of Barisan Nasional.
Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, Abdul Rahman Dahlan, heaping praises on Najib as the best PM did not help to solve problems in Sabah.
For instance Najib’s visit means nothing to the Matunggong folks who were denied water supply since they could not afford to pay the deposit and connection fee with the water authority, as reported in the media recently.
These people had no other alternative but forced to fetch water from a polluted river, which is also running dry.
And this happened right within the constituency of the minister of Water, Energy and Green Technology, Maximus Ongkili. Matunggong is also just next to Kota Belud, the constituency represented by Rahman.
This is but just one instance of failure of BN in providing basic amenities to Sabahans. There are many more rural areas, beside Matunggong, that have yet to to have access to basic amenities like clean water and electricity.
Let me remind Rahman and Najib and all BN leaders that even though Najib has been Prime Minister for six years, under him Sabah still remain the state with the most poor households in the country,
Another example of BN unfulfilled promise in the vicinity is the 17-year old pledge to build a road in Pitas where in the end Sabah DAP had to raise fund and went there to help build a gravel road for the kampung folks.
The government in its 10th Malaysia Plan has targetted to ensure 99% of Sabah rural areas would be supplied with electricity and clean water. It also pledged to build 2,540km of roads in the state rural areas.
If Najib really meant his words a few days ago in which he also said he owed Sabah and wanted to repay Sabahans then all these would not be as they are now. Najib must explain why these Sabahans still have no clean water until now.
So Najib, instead of playing with words, and instead of meddling deeper in internal bickerrings within your own embattled Umno, please pay attention to solving problems in Sabah. Walk the talk, and stop dishing only sweet talks.
