Prime Minister Najib Razak’s statement that Bersih 4 is not democracy but “demo-crazy” is unsustainable.
First of all, the organisers of the Bersih 4.0 rally have put forth a list of five demands, which are:
- Free and Fair Elections (Pilihan Raya yang Bebas dan Adil)
- A Transparent Government (Kerajaan yang Telus)
- The Right to Demonstrate (Hak Berdemonstrasi)
- Strengthening the Parliamentary Democracy System (Memperkukuh Sistem Demokrasi Berparlimen)
- Saving the Economy of Malaysia (Menyelamatkan Ekonomi Malaysia)
Which of the demands mentioned above is not in line with our constitution?
While it is true that Bersih 4 has also asked for the resignation of Najib Razak, but how can Najib Razak equate it to topple the government? Even if Najib agrees to resign, the post of Prime Minister will still be held by a UMNO leader, in this case most probably will be the Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi.
Changing Prime Minister does not mean a government is toppled. Najib Razak should remember how he had forced Tun Abdullah Badawi to step down as the 5th Prime Minister of Malaysia in the year 2009. So if it was legitimate for Najib Razak to ask for Tun Abdullah Badawi’s retirement, surely the Rakyat can do the same to him?
Najib is also terribly wrong to say that Bersih 4 Rally has shamed the country. It is the leader who has left 500,000 Malaysians no choice but to take the street, ie Najib himself, that has shamed Malaysia.
Each and everyone of Malaysian who attended the rally is a fighter for a clean Malaysia. We thanked the heroes and our ancestors who had fought for the independence of Malaysia, and now it is our turn to fight for a Malaysia that is free for corruption and cronyism.
