Response by the Penang State Government to media article quoting Penang ADUN Penanti YB Norlela Ariffin, entitled “PKR politician asking why Penang LRT costs more than MRT”

The Penang State Government would like to clarify that the cost of the Bayan Lepas LRT is not RM24bil, as alleged by YB Norlela Ariffin in the article: http://mole.my/pkr-politician-asking-why-penang-lrt-costs-more-than-mrt/.

As stated in my earlier clarification on the Penang Transport Master Plan cost, dated 19th June 2017, the actual project cost for the projects will only be finalised after detailed engineering design and open tenders are completed. These will only be carried out after the required approvals are obtained from the Federal Government.

As stated in the Request For Proposal (RFP) document submitted by SRS Consortium to the Penang State Government, the cost of the Bayan Lepas LRT from Komtar to Penang South Reclamation’s Island B is estimated to be RM8.4bil (Volume 1, page 4-15).
