I refer to the statement by Johor DAP Chairman and CEC member Sdr Dr Boo Cheng Hau on the issue of DAP Central Executive Committee’s takeover of Kedah DAP state committee. I wish to put the record straight to enable party members and the general public to evaluate the statement by Sdr Dr. Boo.
The chronology of events on the takeover of Kedah DAP by the CEC:
10th May 2013: In the first CEC meeting after GE13, Assistant National Organizing Secretary Sdr Thomas Su proposed that the CEC take over the Kedah state committee and appoint Sdr Zairil Khir Johari to lead an interim state committee until the next State Convention. CEC approved the proposal unanimously.
5th June 2013: In the subsequent CEC meeting, in my capacity as the National Organizing Secretary, I reported to the CEC that the former Kedah state chairman Sdr Lee Guan Aik in a letter dated 30th May 2013 appealed against CEC’s decision to take over the state committee. CEC decided that its decision stays and expressed hope that Sdr Lee will work together with all the elected representatives in Kedah and the interim chairman Sdr Zairil.
30th September 2013: In my capacity as the National Organizing Secretary, I proposed that the CEC (after the CEC reelection) to reaffirm the earlier decision to take over Kedah state committee and appoint Sdr Zairil as the interim chairman. CEC approved the proposal unanimously.
When the issue of the Kedah DAP takeover was deliberated by the CEC on 10th May and 5th June, Sdr Dr Boo was present on both meetings. He did not raise any objections then nor make any counter proposals on the issue. Hence, the proposal to take over Kedah DAP was approved unanimously.
As a member of the CEC, Sdr Dr Boo was bound by the collective decision made at both meetings. I am puzzled as to why he chose to raise the issue now and make his proposal through a press statement instead of raising the issue through the next CEC meeting.
