Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the press conference for the Penang Green Market by PGC which we will see the very first taking place in November later.
Market is a culture that can impact communities by driving economic activity, creating job opportunities and providing resources that can be used for community development and social programs. Social enterprises and businesses with a strong community focus may prioritise community well-being and social impact alongside profit generation.
Penang Green Council will be organising a market, focusing on green initiatives and businesses that aim to cultivate a zero-waste practices among our vendors and communities in Penang. As we promote the growth of economy and social, we must not neglect the importance of the environment. Therefore, the core of Penang Green Market by PGC is to uphold the spirit of zero-waste and eco-friendly that aims to stand out amongst all markets in Penang’s journey towards a green state.
Ladies and gentlemen,
We believe that habit is a little thing that will create a big impact in long term. As we encourage everyone to be considerate and do something to help our environment, we hope that Penang Green Market will be the strategic key that help to cultivate a green lifestyle among our community and show that going green in our daily life is doable and it is practical too! Actually, it is not difficult at all!
Aligning with the Penang2030 vision which our Chief Minister, YAB Chow Kon Yeow launched in year 2018, we aim to build Penang as a “Family Focused, Green and Smart State that inspires the Nation”. Through this platform, we are hoping to see more parents and children spending their quality time together by participating in the activities and learning about green practices in a fun and interactive way. This green market will also be able to connect and unite Penang’s green businesses and community, allowing them to share ideas and contribute to the economy growth in Penang.
Penang is also the first state that implemented the ‘No Free Plastic Bag Day’ in 2009, followed by ‘No Plastic Bag Day’ in 2019, we would like to remind all Penang citizens and visitors to bring your own reusable bags and containers to enjoy food and beverages in the Penang Green Market by PGC.
A balance lifestyle where we do not harm our environment with our old living style is the only way to ensure the sustainability of our only planet. Through this market, we would practice how to say ‘NO’ to single-use plastic by shifting to reusable and support local to reduce carbon footprint.
It is an honour for me to be here today to invite everyone to take part in this market. We welcome sponsors, local businesses, green community and citizens to contribute and also to share ideas and resources in this upcoming Penang Green Market by PGC. Let us walk the talk to build a green and sustainable community hand in hand. I am looking forward to seeing you at the first Penang Green Market this November.
