Umno as a former ruling party should understand that the Malaysian judiciary system is now independent of the executive branch of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam should therefore respect the judiciary instead of making comments that are malicious against the judiciary.
He claimed that prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has meddled into the High Court’s decision yesterday in calling the defence of former prime minister Najib Razak to charges of over RM42 million misappropriated from 1MDB’s former subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Lokman’s statement came barely a few days after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made remarks that were insulting to the court which presided over the case of a woman who was being charged for reckless driving which caused the death of eight teenage cyclists in Johor Baru in 2017.
What is Umno’s hidden agenda by trying to discredit the courts for both the tragic traffic accident and the corruption case involving Najib Razak? Is it Umno’s plan to shatter people’s confidence in our judiciary and throw our country into chaos, with the ultimate aim of paralysing the Pakatan Harapan government?
Stern action must be taken against Lokman, Zahid and those who attempt to undermine our judiciary.
