On the eve of the Sungai Kandis by-election, Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman urged voters not to support a “Christian-led” Pakatan Harapan government when he spoke to an all-Malay crowd in Kampung Jawa. He accused DAP of being the driving force in Harapan, being behind Prime Minister Tun Mahathir’s decisions and he predicted that DAP would one day seek to abolish the monarchy and make Malaysia a republic.
Tajuddin should prove his allegations against the government, Tun Mahathir, DAP and the Christian community. As a senior Member of Parliament, he should not resort to hateful lies and stroke enmity between the communities in Malaysia. Would Tajuddin dare to bring the same allegations when campaigning in the upcoming by-elections in Balakong and Seri Setia?
Barisan Nasional lost 14 of the 19 polling stations in Sungai Kandis. Amongst them was the Kampung Jawa polling district where the hate speech was made. The PH victory in Sungai Kandis by-election also reflects the fact that Malaysian voters in particularly the Malays, are matured and rational after the political watershed general election on 9th May where 60 year-old ruled BN-Umno regime was toppled. The message from Sungai Kandis by-election result is the new Malaysia has no place for politics of fear, hate and lies using race and religion in post-14th general election.
Finally, I demand Tajuddin, a Umno national leader, to retract his above unfounded and malicious accusations against DAP and its leaders within 24 hours, or Umno takes disciplinary action on Tajuddin for promoting politics of race and religion based on lies. If Tajuddin refuses and chooses to be recalcitrant in spreading political lies about DAP, I will have no choice but to ask the authorities to take criminal action on him.
