Tan Sri Speaker should allow my motion for review to determine if decision to reject 1MDB questions last week is wrong or right

Tan Sri Speaker should allow my motion for review to determine if decision to reject 1MDB questions last week is wrong or right.

Tan Sri Speaker says he was right to reject my questions. With respect, I think he is wrong.

The questions posed are not accusations, assumptions, offensive, or made up. They do not offend the Standing Orders at all.

I have filed a motion in Parliament on Wednesday afternoon for a review of his decision. The Speaker should now put my motion to debate in the house and I will convince him that he has erred.

I have in the motion set out clearly why it is I think his decision cannot be sustained.

In respect of the first question, clearly asking for an update on the status of investigations cannot be “perkara yang belum menjadi masalah”. That is preposterous. I have produced an article by MalayMailOnline dated 12.4.2017 in which the IGP says the papers in the 1MDB probe have been sent to the Attorney-General. So there is an investigation. So how can that be “perkara yang belum menjadi masalah”?

The second question relates to what Malaysia proposes to do about the DOJ probe. This is not subjudice. It is a very simple question. It is a claim which involves billions of ringgit. Surely Malaysia needs to do something. We want to know what the Attorney-General is doing and if he is doing nothing, why?

The third question relates to mutual assistance and whether any foreign government has sought help from Malaysia in the 1MDB probes in their countries. This question follows the Attorney-General’s complaint that DOJ had not contacted his chambers over the suit. I have produced an article published in the NST on 16.6.2017 which makes my point. So how can that also be “perkara yang belum jadi”?.

The questions above do not offend the rule against subjudice. They do not go into the merits of the DOJ suit at all. So reliance on the rule of subjudice doesn’t arise, whether or not the case is here or in a foreign country.

So now the real question is should Tan Sri allow and put my motion to the Dewan so that an open debate would be triggered in Parliament and the Rakyat can hear us out and decide for themselves whether or not the questions should be allowed?

He has and I must commend him for this, agreed that Parliament is the best place to discuss the 1MDB issue. But he must give effect to that statement. The best way for him to do that would be for him to allow the motion and push for its debate in the Dewan. Let us discuss the questions and decide whether or not they should have been rejected.
