The AG has obtained leave to commence proceedings to commit Lim Guan Eng to prison for contempt of court We have firm instructions to resist in full the said application and to take all steps necessary in court to clear Guan Eng of such charges

I read in various press reports that the Attorney-General has obtained leave to commence proceedings to commit Lim Guan Eng to prison for contempt of court.

I have yet to be served with the cause papers in respect of the said application.

I will comment on the said application further after I have received and perused it in full if necessary.

For now, in view of the wide scale reporting on the matter, suffice for me to state as follows.

My client takes serious offence to insinuations made against him to the effect that he has in any way scandalised the courts and/or interfered with the administration of justice concerning certain press statements that he made after he was charged or that he had threatened the administration of justice, undermined public confidence in the judiciary, and/or insulted the dignity and integrity of Malaysian courts as alleged.

We have firm instructions to resist in full the said application on behalf of our client and to take all steps necessary in court to clear him of such charges and we will do the needful towards achieving that end on behalf of our client forthwith.

The allegations against Lim Guan Eng are most serious in nature and have serious implications against him. We therefore reserve our client’s rights in the matter or matters connected with it in any event.
