Acting UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that the MACC has frozen UMNO and Selangor UMNO’s bank accounts. He is almost certain that after this, MACC will freeze Johor UMNO’s account. He further spooks his audience by mentioning that there is no guarantee that the UMNO president, his deputy, vice-presidents and supreme council members will not be investigated because they are no longer in government.
Zahid Hamidi however failed to mention the pink elephant in the room – UMNO and Selangor UMNO received RM100 million and RM25 million respectively from an AmBank account number 2112022009694 belonging to Najib Razak, where the money is believed to have its origins from 1MDB.
Last week, it was reported that investigators are looking into money flowing from companies tied to 1MDB and fund transfers from former prime minister Najib Razak’s private accounts to key Barisan Nasional partners and politicians.
Other than UMNO and their state offices and women’s wing, it is believed that Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) Selangor Liason Committee, Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) were recipients from this bank account.
Have their accounts also been frozen pending investigation? The Barisan Nasional recipients should be honest and bold enough to come forward to assist in the investigation instead of hiding behind the infamous Najib I-don’t-know defense.
