I am appalled with the decision of PAS’ elder Muslim scholars council, Majlis Shura, to declare to end ties with DAP, one month after the resolution to cut relations with the DAP in the PAS’ Muktamar is a foregone conclusion that doesn’t interest anyone anymore.
Such decision comes after the resolution passed by the PAS’s Muktamar shows that the ulama in PAS are not clear about the operation of a political party that is based on democratic principles. In any political party, the party convention/ general assembly is the highest decision making body.
It is absurd for the newly elected PAS’ leadership to pass the decision passed by the Muktamar to the Majlis Shura to decide again, and the Majlis Shura takes another month to make the decision today.
It is PAS’s ignorance and disrespect of democracy and consensus in decision making in a political coalition that has caused the break-up of PAS and the death of Pakatan Rakyat.
The DAP’s Centre Executive Committee (CEC) has decided last month to accept PAS’ Muktamar decision to cut ties with DAP and declared that Pakatan Rakyat has ceased to exist.
Two days ago, Faiz Fadzil, the son of former PAS president Datuk Fadzil Noor has said that PAS – once an inclusive party which managed to win the support and respect of Muslims and non-Muslims alike – was now beyond redemption and has become a shadow of its former self, fixated on rhetoric and removed from political realities and the needs of the people.
PAS has disappointed the opposition supporters, betrayed and killed off Pakatan Rakyat that was formed seven years ago.
The break-up of PAS and Pakatan Rakyat is a blessing in disguise as it opens door for the re-alignment of political forces in the country and a new chapter in Malaysian politics.
