Whilst it has never seemed so hopeful that a much need political realignment will happen, and UMNO never been so nakedly exposed of its vile corruption and utter ignorance of Malaysia and Malaysians, I wouldn’t be planning the celebratory party just yet.
In democratic countries, a status which our beloved country has long rescinded; the people’s confidence, personal integrity and indisputable legitimacy of character are non-negotiables for men and women holding their nation’s highest political post. Whenever any of the above are called into question, the political ‘muscle memory’ is to resign to protect the nation, his or her own party, and the democratic system from further shame.
In the electoral autocracy that is Malaysia, the ruling UMNO elites cannot even fathom the idea of a resignation from a position of perceived embattlement as it will be an admission of guilt tantamount to an apology.
The word “sorry” simply does not exist within the political vocabulary of UMNO politicians. To apologise, one must first feel shame; one who are unable or unwilling to apologise when proven wrong time and time again, one is simply shameless. UMNO is clearly that.
With that in mind, UMNO is likely to take even more iron fisted approaches in defending the indefensible. They would drag the thing out in order to buy maximum time to do more of what got them here in the first place.
The revelation of corruption of this magnitude would be read as a green light for those with the power and influence, to go all out on a last ditch to line their Swiss bank accounts before their ultimate demise.
We are defenceless from the expert, ruthless, and now desperate pillage and plunder that UMNO/BN is accustomed to. Whilst it is tempting to think that UMNO/BN will be crushed by the weight of their own wrong doings, we must not be complacent. This is not the time to sit back and watch the drama unfold.
To some of us who have pledged ourselves as leaders of Change, we must be prepared for the worst treatment being levelled against us. In UMNO’s unprecedented internal disarray, the extreme and the most desperate among them will be heard the clearest. It will only hit rock bottom before it gets better.
For aspiring agents of change, it has never been more urgent for you all to ready yourselves for service to your principles, your nation and your fellow Malaysians. When the current front-liners are sacrificed to be locked up behind UMNO’s defensive iron curtain, YOU MUST step up to the plate.
For all of us, We, as Malaysians need to show, with more vigour and intensity than ever, our dissatisfaction towards the way in which our hard earned taxes are being devoured by UMNO’s political greed.
The moment that the anger of the people subside, is the moment they will redouble their evil efforts. We must keep up the pressure and momentum until power of the people is returned to the people. Do not underestimate the fierce urgency of NOW.
What we need is not a change of guard in BN, nor even just a change of party in power; the decay and damage is far too deep and wide. What we need is a paradigm shift and total reconfiguration of how we Malaysians think and do politics. There has never been a better time than now to realise it.
We simply cannot take the view of some politicians that the opposition is dealt a god-sent hand now that UMNO is self-destructing. They are resilient beyond our belief, if not simply by inertia; it would be by brute force of resistance.
And yes, If it means taking to streets in peaceful protests, so be it. The largest of the Bersih rallies is now but a success of the past; we need to surpass that by far. There has never been more fertile ground for a true political tectonic shift.
