The Kuching Water Board(KWB) should come out with a clear explanation to the people with regards to the persistent “dirty water” experience in multiple parts of Kuching for the past few months.
While I understand that KWB conducts yearly water main flushing program to clean the water mains of any dirt, debris, and other materials and as well as gate valve repairs that may cause water running from our taps to be dirty, but this should only be temporary in nature. We have received multiple complains from different parts of Kuching that is has been persistent for weeks and some areas even months.
Some of the complaints come from areas such as Tabuan Jaya, Tabuan Laru, Tabuan Desa Keranji, Star Garden, Muara Tabuan, Batu Kawah, Stapok, Stutong Resettlement Scheme, Jln Dogan, Jln Upland, Simpang Tiga, Matang Jaya, Sg Apong and many other areas.
The public are even concern on the cleanliness and safety of such water.
That is why I urge KWB to give a clear explanation to the people on the cause of such problem a clear timeline on when this problem can be resolved. This is affecting not only the residents, but businesses in the area.
The constant water supply disruption problem and dirty water has not only caused an adverse impact on the quality of life of consumers, but they have also subjected each household or business owner to added burden by having to install water tanks and/or purchase treated water.
This is a serious issue as water is one of the most basic necessities for everyone. What is worst this is persisting even in the urban area of Kuching. And if the government can’t even handle it properly in the urban areas, just imagine the long-time sufferings of our fellow Sarawakians in the rural areas.
That is why, an immediate explanation must be given and a clear timeline when this problem will be addressed.
