The next two tests to determine whether the Anwar unity government can last the full term of five years are:
- The May/June meeting of Parliament; and
- The general election in the six states of Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
This is why I said the May/June meeting of Parliament is a make-and-break meeting for the Anwar unity government, for at the end of the three-week May/June meeting of Parliament, more Malaysians must be able to remain hopeful that the Anwar unity government can save Malaysia from the fate of a divided, failed and kleptocratic state as there will be reset and return to the original nation-building principles of a plural Malaysia that the nation’s founding fathers (which included the first three Prime Ministers who were also UMNO Presidents) have agreed upon, and which is written into the Constitution and Rukun Negara – that Malaysia is a land which produces world champions like the Thomas Cup champions in the fifties and sixties and is a model country for the world for inter-ethnic, inter-religious, inter-cultural and inter-civilisational dialogue, understanding, tolerance and harmony.
The general election in the six states of Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu in July/August should prove that there is no such thing as a “green wave” and that the aspiration of the Anwar unity government to make Malaysia a world-class nation has the support of all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region.
If the Chinese, Indians, Kadazans and Dayaks in Malaysia are made to believe that there is diabolical plan to wipe up their race, religion or culture, they would unite and fight to the end.
Similarly, if Malays are made to believe that there is a diabolical plan to wipe out the race, Islam and Malay culture, they will oppose and resist to the end.
But there is no such diabolical plan, whether to wipe out the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans and Dayaks, their religion or culture.
There must be an all-out effort to wipe out this misperception that the Malays, their race, religion and culture are under threat and face elimination, for there is no such threat.
This is testified by the large multi-ethnic and multi-religious crowds at Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open Houses, whether of royalty, political leaders or the ordinary people – proof of the Malaysian solidarity and open-mindedness among the people which rises above race, religion and culture and indication that Malaysia can be a model for the world for inter-ethnic, inter-religious, inter-cultural, inter-civilisational dialogue, understanding, tolerance and harmony.
The sole message of the Perikatan Nasional of Bersatu and PAS is that the Malays are being wiped out and that the Malays have lost all their political and economic rights, which are based on lies, falsehoods and fake news of the social media.
Who caused Tun Mahathir Mohamad to lose his deposit in the 15th General Election in the Langkawi parliamentary constituency?
It is the Bersatu candidate, Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah who defeated Mahathir but who was recently reprimanded and fined RM25,000 for corporate non-compliance when he was Silver Ridge Holdings Bhd’s founder and group managing director and breached the Bursa Malaysia ACE Market Listing Requirements in not disclosing immediately a letter of award (LOA) Silver Ridge received from Telekom Malaysia on May 4, 2021 for a contract worth RM20.6 million.
This is a case where Mahathir has become a political victim of New Economic Policy (NEP) – where the NEP made millionaires of a handful of Malays while the majority of the Malays remain in the B40 bracket.
