The people of Sarawak in this election have an important choice to make.
This is the mother of all elections as this election we will be making a decision whether Malaysia will continue to a path of kleptocracy or failed governance, with racial and religious sentiments used to cover up bad governance and economic incompetency.
About 70 years ago, Sri Lanka was known as the Diamond of South Asia due to their growth and economic potential in the region.
However, today we have seen it turned into a failed state with riots breaking out all over the country because the people do not even have gas to cook their food or power to light up their homes.
This is down to massive corruption by country leaders, abuse of power, and of course, racial and religious sentiments used to divide the people and cover up massive incompetency in governance.
Imagine, in that 70 years, if the people there did a proper reflection and made a choice to change, how this could have been different today in Sri Lanka.
If we draw parallel to Malaysia at the current state, we also can see many similiarities, and we are also at that juncture, where we have a choice to make to set the direction of our beloved nation.
While SUPP/GPS rally call is to “vote for Sarawak” and “what is best for Sarawak” but yet until today, they have not condemned the acts of corruption and abuse of power just like the 1MDB, LCS or even the RM1.25 billion solar panel project scandal in Sarawak that has deprived and affected the people of Sarawak.
How is corruption, abuse of power, rampant divisive sentiments and a total disrespect of the multicultural and multireligious fabric in Malaysia even good for Sarawak?
That is why, this election, we are indeed “voting for Sarawak” and what is best for Sarawak, and that is to ensure we vote for a federal government build on principles of good governance, anti-corruption, and a respect for the pluralistic nature of Malaysia as a whole.
While we do want a stable government, we cannot stabilise a corrupt government, we cannot stabilise a incompetent and racist government, and we cannot stabilise a government more interested in power than solving the issues faced by everyday Malaysia.
That is why we need a “reset” and the power is in the hands of the people. We need to progress, not regress to ensure good foundations are build in our country so we all including Sarawakians can prosper through good governance that is the fundamentals of what Pakatan Harapan is fighting for.
