Last week PKR deputy president, Mohamed Azmin Ali announced on another attempt at “informal discussions” on political cooperation between PKR and PAS on a stand-alone basis, not involving Pakatan Harapan (PH). However, a PAS ulama leader yesterday was adamant no such discussion with PKR occurred, especially if it came with the image of PH. One may wonder who is being kept in the dark?
While it is entirely PKR’s right to continue wooing PAS who had repeatedly rejected the former, it will be PH’s right as a coalition to reject PKR’s suggestion, if any, for PH to work with PAS in PRU 14.
As claimed by Azmin, PKR also has a right to work with PAS in PRU 14 to fight for Umno and BN seats. However, the Selangor MB must be reminded that PH will not tolerate any form of seat negotiation with PAS. If PKR is adamant to negotiate seats with PAS, it can give some of its seats to PAS as it is PKR’s right to do so.
And if that happens, PH will not assist in campaigning for these seats traditionally contested by PKR but given to PAS to contest in PRU 14. PKR may also be on the losing side as moderate Muslims, Christian voters from East Malaysia and many other PH supporters may not vote for PKR candidates because they disapprove of a PKR-PAS pact. If these seats are lost, PKR should not blame other component parties in PH for not campaigning for these PKR candidates because PH also disapproves of the PKR-PAS pact. This staunch PH stance is an issue which PKR seems to need reminding over and over again.
