There is no pact between Lim Kit Siang and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad or anyone for that matter, to rescue Lim Guan Eng as suggested by Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a report.
That statement doesn’t make sense. There is nothing Tun Dr Mahathir can do which could impact on the pending proceedings against Lim Guan Eng and Ismail should know that being a lawyer himself.
Criminal proceedings in this country are instituted at the discretion of the Attorney-General. That is provided for in the Federal Constitution. Article 145(3) is clear in this regard.
Dr Mahathir is not the Attorney-General. He has no legal standing to do anything which could possibly affect the proceedings or outcome of the proceedings against Lim Guan Eng.
So what Ismail is saying is utter nonsense. It is quite clearly devoid of any substance and factually perverse.
