The Government has set up too many committees for various critical issues faced by Sabahans but with less achievements so far.
Among the key issues that affected much of the Sabahans’ daily living were the cabotage policy blamed for the price disparity, the illegal immigrants who have changed the social and political landscape of the state as well as the unfair distribution of allocations to the state.
It was clear that the approach of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s administration in responding to the issues were simple enough, “by setting up committee after committee.”
First, we have Federal committee on the Cabotage Policy, which Deputy Chief Minister-cum-State Infrastructure Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, is involved in the committee that is being coordinated by the Federal Transport Ministry.
Second, we have the Permanent Committee on Management of Foreign Migrants in Sabah and the Technical Committee on Foreign Migrants in Sabah formed after the RCI report was released.
But has there been any concrete solutions tabled by the two committees set up earlier? Are Sabahans now free from the price disparity gap?
What should we do to address the influx of illegal immigrants, and the most important matter is, how should we treat the young generations of those illegal but born in Malaysia?
The sad answer is, NATO — No Action Talk Only.
Sabah welcome another special committee, which according to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, the Prime Minister had agreed to form a special committee to study Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement of the net revenue collected by the Federal government from the state.
The Kimanis MP said the committee will also study thoroughly several issues especially on the financial rights of the oil and gas royalty, which was last paid in 1974.
Ironically, Anifah neither announced the member sitting in the committee nor when would the committee set up. Will this committee be another NATO?
