The Prime Minister has failed to make any credible stand on the Allah issue until now. He has also kept silent despite rising rage and anger amongst Malaysian’s over the issue which has become highly racial ini nature.
And now his silence again seems to suggest that he condones the UMNO planned roadshows to “educate” muslims on Selangor’s Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation amongst Muslims) Enactment 1988.
It is quite obvious that these so called roadshows will further rile up feelings of the muslims against the non-muslims. This is even more evident from a report which says about 1000 UMNO members in Hulu Selangor held a protest against the use of the word Allah by the Christians on Sunday. This was followed by the burning of an effigy of Rev Father Lawrence Andrew at the end of the march.
What signal is Najib as the head of UMNO sending to his members by remaining silent over such incidents and threats for even more of the same? Is it a sign of support for public unrest and strained relations amongst the people?
The Prime Minister must state openly his stand over these proposed roadshows. He should stop it. If he does not stop it, then I think it is clear that he is encouraging racial tension.
This will further mark his failure to live up to his 1Malaysia slogan, his promise to be a Prime Minister for all Malaysians and his call for national reconciliation.
