During my visit to the Bintawa Hawker Centre last Saturday with YB Violet Yong, we received complaints from the public and hawkers regarding the pedestrian walkway that connects the main road to the hawker centre. Despite the renovation done for the hawker centre, the brick-paved walkway has deteriorated due to heavy rain, forming gaps that pose a significant safety hazard to pedestrians that visit the hawker centre.
In order to enhance safety for the public, I propose upgrading the entire walkway to ensure a safer and more durable pathway for all pedestrians. Additionally, I also suggest installing railings along the walkway near the drainage area, especially those visiting the hawker centre early in the morning.
Later on the same day, I visited the Kenyalang Hawker Centre and coincidentally met the mayor of MBKS, Dato Wee Hong Seng. I took the opportunity to propose to him that my service centre would fully fund the walkway upgrade project, ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment for both the residents and hawkers of Bintawa.
Today, I had also sent an official letter to Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, hoping for MBKS’s approval of the proposal. This collaboration aims to improve the business environment for hawkers while ensuring public safety at the same time.
I hope that MBKS would approve the proposal as soon as possible so that the upgrading works can commence without delay, ensuring a safer walkway and environment for the hawker centre.
