I am puzzled by the recent statement by Chief Minister Abang Johari claiming that “BN did not fight for Sarawak’s interest” and that they were bounded by the BN parliamentary whip and even if constitution or laws that negatively affected the state are tabled, whether they like it or not, they couldn’t say no and had to follow.
While we understand the concept of a parliamentary whip, but this goes to show that Chief Minister Abang Jo and the current GPS leadership from all the component parties have been misleading or even outrightly lying to the people of Sarawak where before the elections, they claimed that the interest of Sarawak can only be taken care of by BN and Abang Jo even on further to endorse Najib as the best Prime Minister that is sincere and cooperates to assist Sarawak.
Now that the election is over, and BN lost the election, the current GPS leaders who has since left BN, are singing a totally different tune from before. This only shows their hypocrisy but also their insincerity of really upholding the interest of Sarawak, and they will only follow along for their own political survival.
Fact of the matter is they have been in BN and the ruling government for the past 55 years. They cannot conveniently push the blame to BN as they are accomplice to the failures and bad policies of BN themselves. Whether they are bounded by parliamentary whip or not, it is a deliberate choice to follow or decide to uphold interest of the people. It is also a deliberate choice to continue to remain in the coalition if what they claim is true that BN did not protect the rights of Sarawak. But instead even after all those years, they made a deliberate choice to toe the line and remain in the coalition that according to their own words, did not take care of our State.
Thus, it is irresponsible to push the blame for their own deliberate choice over more than 50 years. And they attempt to mislead the public on the facts of the matter is downright irresponsible. Are these the leaders we want to lead our State in the upcoming State elections? Leaders that did not fight for our rights and claims they had no choice but to follow when they clearly had the choice o do so.
I thus urge Abang Johari and the leaders of the current GPS to apologise to the people of Sarawak for misleading us all these years even when they are fully aware of the real situation. Their sincerity to uphold the interest of people is strongly question, especially in their own admission, they deliberately chose to toe the line to protect their own position instead.
