The ADUN Kampung Tunku office is pleased to announce that long-awaited pipe upgrading works in Section 22 have begun, under Air Selangor Petaling’s Package 83B. The implementation parties are Air Selangor and Golden Admiral and Straits Consulting Engineers.
Between 2018-2019 where water disruptions were common, Section 22 often had the misfortune of being the first to experience water cuts and the last to be restored. Considering this, our office has lobbied for the past 2-3 years to secure a pipe replacement project for Section 22.
While pipe replacement in Section 14 has reduced such incidents, we hope with localised replacement in Section 22 through this project, residents’ water woes will become a thing of the past. With the new valved system, we also expect more stability in water service delivery in neighbouring areas such as Section 20 and 21.
The specific roads involved are: Jalan 22/49, Lorong 22/49a, Jalan 22/32, Jalan 22/51, Jalan 22/47, Jalan 22/34, Jalan 22/34a, Jalan 22/45, Jalan 22/57, Jalan 22/38, Jalan 22/36, Jalan 22/42, Jalan 22/55, Jalan 22/53, Jalan 22/28, Jalan 22/40, and Lorong 22/42a.
Initial work began on 29 May 2024, with completion expected by January 2025.
Section 22 residents can expect the following to occur over the course of the project:
1. Excavation and installation of new pipes: The replacement process will involve the use of the open cut method, with an average excavation depth of 1.5 metres. The original asbestos cement pipes will be replaced with ductile iron pipes.
2. Temporary resurfacing: To minimise inconvenience to residents and road users, excavated areas will be promptly backfilled with sand and temporarily resurfaced within 24 hours of excavation.
3. Water metre relocation and reconnection: Existing water metres will be relocated, replaced with stainless steel models, and then be securely reconnected to the new pipes.
4. New road resurfacing: Following the completion of pipe connection work, comprehensive curb-to-curb road resurfacing will be done by the contractor, ensuring smooth and safe travel for all residents.
