Wee Ka Siong should learn from Khairy Jamaludin and Nazri Aziz, the lesson from the 14th General Elections and not dismiss the 42 criminal charges against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak relating to 1MDB as a personal matter

MCA President Wee Ka Siong should learn from UMNO leaders Khairy Jamaludin and Nazri Aziz, the lesson from the 14th General Election that the rakyat rejected corruption and the RM51 billion 1MDB scandal. Wee had supported the appointment of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the Chairman of BN Advisory Board despite Najib facing 42 criminal charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse and power, with the explanation that, “I don’t comment on personal matters,”.

Najib’s 42 criminal charges relating to 1MDB is not a personal matter as claimed by Wee, but a matter of definite public importance and national strategic significance. For Wee to dismiss Najib’s 42 criminal charges as a personal matter, proves that MCA remains irresponsible by refusing to account for the tens of billions of ringgit in losses suffered by the Malaysian economy and the rakyat. By failing to learn the lesson of the 14th General Election, MCA and BN is not only unfit to rule the country but also unfit to be elected representatives.

Instead Wee would do well to recant his remarks that Najib’s 42 criminal charges are a personal matter, and learn from the criticisms of both Khairy and Nazri on Najib’s appointment as Chairman of BN’s Advisory Council that:-

  • it would be “insane” to expect BN and Umno achieving different or better results with Najib in an influential position following BN’s defeat under Najib in the last general election.
  • Najib’s “Malu Apa Bossku” campaign is Najib’s bid to rebrand himself and “Bossku” is not a political party, but is something childish and just for fun that won’t translate into votes.
  • Najib cannot claim he was the victim of “fitnah” (slander) on 1MDB charges because there are court proceedings now, where there are already settlements in 1MDB related cases in the US and locally, involving more than a billion ringgit being returned back to the Finance Ministry.
