When will the police act against the special envoy to the Middle East with ministerial status Abdul Hadi Awang for his baseless, divisive, racist and extremist branding of non-Muslims and non-Bumis as roots for corruption in Malaysia?

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri’s Keluarga Malaysia is proven to be a fake and empty piece of political spin to deceive, delude and defraud Malaysians about Ismail’s commitment to forging Malaysian unity regardless of race and promoting religious harmony. How then can Keluarga Malaysia mean anything when the Special Envoy to the Middle East with Ministerial status, Abdul Hadi Awang, is allowed to escape unpunished for insulting non-Muslims and non-bumis as being the roots for corruption in Malaysia?

Not just Cabinet but no single Minister, including the Prime Minister, has upheld Keluarga Malaysia by repudiating Abdul Hadi Awang for his baseless, divisive, racist and extremist branding of non-Muslims and non-bumis. A multitude of police reports have already been lodged throughout the country against Hadi seeking stern action for Hadi’s inflammatory and unsubstantiated remarks that has angered many Malaysians, particularly non-Muslims and non-bumis.

When will the police act?

Even Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) President Muhammad Mohan had labelled Hadi as racist and potentially seditious, urging the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission to take action against Hadi for making such an irresponsible statement. To-date the PAS President has remained unrepentant and unashamed that he poses a clear and present danger to Malaysian unity and national integration between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Malaysia has performed poorly in TI’s Corruption Perception Index or CPI since the BN-PN back-door government took over in 2020, crashing down 11 spots from No. 51 in 2019 to No. 62 in 2021. Unless Hadi’s hate speech is stopped, blaming race and religion as the root of corruption, will only see Malaysia’s CPI ranking deteriorate further in 2022.

The non-bumi and non-Muslim Cabinet members have disappointed many with their deafening silence. By not daring to get Cabinet to take the correct principled stand against Hadi’s hate speech, these Ministers from MCA, MIC, GPS and GRS are condoning, emboldening and legitimatising Hadi’s hostility and hatred against non-bumis and non-Muslims.

Previously Hadi had stated that non-Muslims have no right to take up important Ministerial posts in the Cabinet, such as the Finance Minister. And yet MCA, MIC, GPS and GRS continue to work with and support PAS and their Ministers in the Federal government. The non-Muslim Ministers’ continued silence makes them equally responsible for the racism and extremism by PAS, particularly when PAS has now gone further in wanting to ban concerts, Oktoberfest and Bon Odori.
