Perikatan Nasional leaders from PAS should stop its dirty politics of using race, religion and misogyny to win the coming general elections. Using hate speech and divisive rhetoric against non-Muslims and non-Malays will harm racial and religious harmony as well as jeopardize national unity and integration between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
PAS celebrity supporter and actor Zul Huzaimy recently expressed a wish in a political event in Terengganu on November 4th to “sembelih (slaughter) kafir harbi”, or infidels(non-Muslims) opposed to the Islamic rule purportedly espoused by PAS. Zul said he harboured a wish to slaughter the kafir harbi and it was only the country’s laws that were stopping him from doing so.
In a democracy, every citizen is afforded protection to exercise the freedom, rights and choice of government. That includes opposing PAS. For a celebrity supporter of PAS to issue threats to kill those who are opposed to Islamic rule(purportedly the PAS version), is not only barbaric but also against the very concept of rule of law and all religious values, including Islam. No one has a right to be killed for holding different political views.
Only taking stern action against PAS can stop PAS from promoting such hate speech from spreading. PAS leaders have been openly targeting non-Muslims and non-Malays in a desperate attempt to win over Malay votes. PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang even blamed non-Malays for being the root of all corruption in Malaysia. Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor insulted and was openly contemptuous of women seeking to be elected as Member of Parliament in Sik because women take too much time(2 hours) to make-up or apply cosmetics.
Non-Malay voters know that PN are not sincere and do not need non-Malay votes. But non-Malays are getting uneasy that such hate speech can be permitted to go unpunished. Will the authorities and the police act against those spreading hate speech and openly inciting murder against non-Muslims, so that we can protect democracy and our innocent citizens as well as prevent such lawlessness from ruining our country?
