Adenan’s repeated calls tantamount to a slap on the face of Taib

Adenan’s repeated calls that Sarawak has been unfairly treated for the past 52 years tantamount to a slap on the face of Taib. It is nothing but a constant reminder to the people of Sarawak that it is the Barisan Nasional Government which has discriminated against Sarawak all these years.

It is also the biggest irony that Adenan is now complaining about the discrimination against Sarawak which is now echoed by his colleagues in Sarawak BN.

Adenan has been elected as a member of the Sarawak Legislative Council since 1979. He was even appointed as a Federal Minister during his political career and a state minister for many years before he became the Chief Minister.

All these years, has he spoken up against the discrimination in Parliament or in DUN? Has he fought for more equal treatment for Sarawak?

His repeated admission that Sarawak has been discriminated by the BN Government speaks volume about the failure of Taib Mahmud who was the Chief Minister of Sarawak for 33 years before he retired.

Is Adenan also chiding Taib for the discrimination against Sarawak? Afterall, Taib was the Chief Minister of Sarawak for 33 years. Surely, Taib cannot exonerate himself for the discrimination all these years.

It is also to be noted that during Taib’s tenure, Sarawak BN literally enjoys absolute control of the Sarawak DUN, with negligible opposition presence in DUN.

Therefore, it is a fallacy and a bluff by Adenan that he needs more support for him to fight for more rights for Sarawak, when the discrimination against Sarawak happened when BN Sarawak almost won 100% of the State DUN seats.

It is only now that the people of Sarawak have shown their anger against BN through the ballots that the BN Government admits to the long-term systematic discrimination against Sarawak.

So far, Adenan’s repeated calls is mere rhetoric without much improvement to the people of Sarawak in terms of education, medical services, job opportunities, economic activities and security.

Adenan must tell us specifically:

1. what has he done before when he was a Federal Minister and an ADUN for almost 40 years towards a fairer treatment for Sarawak?
2. what he can do that Taib Mahmud cannot do in his 33 years as Chief Minister of Sarawak?
3. What specific rights that he wants Sarawak to have and that he will fight for? Mere rhetoric eg. we want more autonomy is hollow and means nothing.
