I wish to convey my heartfelt congratulations to YB Baru Bian and YB Chong Chieng Jen for their appointments as Minister of Works and Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism respectively.
Although many of the supporters and members of Pakatan Harapan Sarawak may feel Sarawak is not given enough positions in the Federal Cabinet, I will tend to opine that it is hard for such appointments to be valued mathematically.
I believe the Prime Minister has taken all the considerations into account, such as gender, suitability of a particular candidate in particular position, race as well as balancing the strength of components parties within Pakatan Harapan, in getting his cabinet formed.
DAP chose to convey our suggestions and views on the appointment of cabinet members within the framework of Pakatan Harapan. After all, what we are fighting hard for, is not the ministerial post, but the welfare and interest of the people.
DAP Sarawak, together with our counterparts in PH Sarawak, are having huge task ahead, that is to deliver what we promised and to make Malaysia a better country for all of us.
In particular, I applaud that YB Chong Chieng Jen has been entrusted in such an important Ministry, ie Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism to spearhead the revival of the domestic economy of the Country and to ease the financial burden of the people. We vividly know that one of the main issues during the recent GE14, apart from corruption, was economy issue.
I personally have benefit to hear from YB Chong on his inspiration and commitment in putting reducing living costs of the people as his priority task. We, DAP Aduns and MPs were also instructed by him to assist him in various ways in this.
Again, on behalf of my party, I thank our supporters and members for their trust, and we shall not let them down by delivering to them good policies.
