DAPSY Attends “Arrest Azam Baki” Rally, Reiterates Call for Full Probe into MACC Controversy and Stresses Accountability Must Prevail

1. DAPSY National, as well as DAPSY members from various states, attended the “Arrest Azam Baki” rally today, standing alongside Malaysians in a peaceful assembly to express deep concern over the state of the nation’s anti-corruption system, and to firmly call for a thorough investigation and substantial reforms.

2. The rally clearly reflects the public’s growing concern and dissatisfaction over the ongoing controversies surrounding the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), particularly those involving Chief Commissioner Azam Baki, as well as serious allegations linking the commission to the “corporate mafia”. These issues have severely undermined national institutions, public trust, and the rule of law.

3. Malaysians have the right to demand a clear, transparent, and accountable explanation. People are taking to the streets to defend the very foundations of our institutions and to rebuild public trust. This is not an attempt to destabilise the country, but rather a sincere and necessary expression of the people’s demand for clean governance.

4. DAPSY reiterates its support for the three key demands of the rally, namely the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate allegations of a “corporate mafia” within the MACC, a comprehensive probe into Azam Baki alongside institutional reforms of the MACC, as well as the protection of the public’s freedom of expression on corruption-related issues.

5. If the allegations are proven to be true, the authorities must act in accordance with the law, including suspension, investigation, and even the arrest of those involved. This is necessary to uphold the rule of law and to ensure that no one is above it, as all are equal before the law.

6. DAPSY stresses that although Azam Baki’s tenure is nearing its end, this must never be used as a reason to evade investigation. On the contrary, the authorities must seize this opportunity to conduct a full, independent, and transparent inquiry to uncover the truth, restore institutional credibility, and rebuild public confidence.

7. At the same time, DAPSY expresses its appreciation to all Malaysians who participated in the rally and upheld peaceful conduct in voicing their demands, demonstrating the civic maturity expected of a functioning democracy.

8. Peaceful assembly is a cornerstone of any democratic society. The people’s rational and orderly expression of views is a testament to Malaysia’s ongoing democratic progress.

9. DAPSY reaffirms its commitment to stand with the people in advancing institutional reforms and strengthening accountability mechanisms, in order to build a truly clean, just, and transparent system of governance.
