PAS and PN should not inflame sentiments against DAP Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Wong Siew Ki when she merely suggested in her speech in the Selangor State Assembly that the Selangor government reconsider its approach to pig farming, including exploring modern and regulated systems. PAS should not behave irresponsibly by accusing Wong of being “treasonous” by raising the issue, as she did not question nor make any lies against the Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
This contrasts with a PAS Minister who misled Parliament on 26 July 2021 by announcing that the then PN government had already revoked all Emergency Ordinances (EOs) effective July 21. On July 29 2021, Istana Negara issued a rare, stern royal reprimand expressing the King’s “great disappointment” (amat dukacita) that this announcement by the PAS Minister is false because the King had not yet consented to the revocation. Takiyuddin’s announcement was deemed inaccurate and misleading to Parliament.
Wong did not mislead the Selangor State Assembly nor did she make any false statement about the Selangor Sultan. A review of her speech at the Selangor state assembly on April 22 shows that Wong had merely exercised her right to convey the opinions of her constituents by proposing a reconsideration of how the pig industry is managed.
If PAS is consistent and responsible, they should have taken action against the PAS Minister who was reprimanded by the King in 2021. Instead PAS practices double standards by targeting a young female Selangor State Assemblyperson for merely exercising her right to express her views officially in the Selangor State Assembly.
What is also regrettable is that UMNO is also taking the same position as PAS in targeting Wong. Clearly it is difficult for a leopard to change its spots.
Wong has rightly said she would not back down despite threats and PAS members demonstrating outside her service centre. She would not only have support from DAP members in and outside Selangor but also from the public for carrying out her public duties as an elected representative.
