It is now confirmed that the new Kampar Hospital had been cancelled. In 2011-2012, Dato Seri Liow Tiong Lai announced that government was going to build a new hospital in Kampar and Parit Buntar. The current Kampar Hospital was built in 1949 on a steep hill which is totally unsuitable nowadays. A piece of land was even granted by the late sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah in Bandar Baru for the hospital to be built. This was meant to be completed in 2015
Even though Dato Lee Chee Leong was defeated in 2013 general election, the project was confirmed and approved by cabinet in 2014 to be built and financed under the 11th Malaysia Plan. Unfortunately at that time Ministry of Health was informed that UTAR wanted to build a private hospital, which subsequently led to the cancellation of the new government hospital. This was never revealed to the people of Kampar until I and Nga Kor Ming asked about the progress of the promised hospitals in Parliament. The new Parit Buntar hospital was late but never cancelled despite voting for opposition twice in 2008 and 2013.
Amazingly, Dato Lee Chee Leong started claiming the cancellation of the new hospital was due to the fact that he was not elected by the voters. He even promised the voters he will appeal for a new Kampar Hospital if he wins the election this time. At the same time he is touting the new UTAR Hospital in Kampar as a contribution and success of MCA. MCA members were even showing pictures of the hospital as the reward for voting BN/MCA. They were even made to think that the UTAR hospital is a government hospital.
The reality cannot be further from the truth. In fact UTAR hospital likely will be a private hospital built with public donations and government subsidy. I will like to ask Dato Lee Chee Leong to explain to the voters the real reason for cancellation of the new Kampar Hospital is because of the interference from UTAR, but not to put the blame on them for voting the opposition. He should do the honourable thing and withdraw himself as a candidate in the coming GE14 after doing such a disservice to the Kampar constituency. And not blame the voters again should he lose again this round.
