PAS president Dato Seri Hadi Awang says he is angry with DAP because of its stance against hudud and that it is correct for muslims to be angry with DAP because we oppose the implementation of hudud.
He is further reported as saying that it is compulsory for muslims to vent their anger towards those who do not support hudud.
Let me be very clear.
DAP maintains its position. We have said it time and again. We oppose any effort by anyone to implement hudud be it in Kelantan or anywhere else in Malaysia.
We support the Federal Constitution which recognizes Islam as the official religion of the federation and constitutional pronouncements that Malaysia is a nation governed by secular law.
It is our view that any effort to introduce hudud as such, would be unconstitutional.
It is therefore our constitutional right to oppose the implementation of hudud and Hadi has no business threatening us or anyone else in the manner he did for opposing it.
Hadi’s statement comes across as an attack against Pakatan Rakyat as well as hudud does not form part of its its Common Policy Framework.
It must also be looked at from a national viewpoint. If leaders call upon their people to be angry and to vent that anger at certain groups of society, then the unity of that nation will come under threat. That could build racial hatred which is something which is totally unacceptable.
This is a very serious matter and we must reject such leadership.
Malaysia is a multiracial and multireligious nation. We have come a long way in building a society which respects and protects its people. We can ill-afford to have leaders like Hadi who put all this at risk.
Hadi should realise that his statement goes beyond reference to the DAP alone. It refers to all Malaysians who do not support the implementation of hudud. That to me is a general attack against all of them which attack I severely condemn.
