I read Minister Mah Siew Keong’s statement that Gerakan endorsed Teng Chang Yeow to contest against Lim Kit Siang in coming General Elections with great amusement. I wonder why doesn’t the Gerakan President Mah Siew Keong offer himself to challenge Lim Kit Siang? Sending Teng Chang Yeow to contest against Lim shows Mah is scared and Teng would land up as a “sacrificial lamb”.
The endorsement by Mah Siew Keong on Teng Chang Yeow to challenge Lim Kit Siang reflects badly on Mah Siew Keong, because Teng will be seen as much more courageous than the Gerakan President to face the DAP strongman.
Secondly, Mah knows very well that Lim Kit Siang won’t heed the challenge of Teng to contest in a state seat in Penang. Mah’s move to endorse Teng reflects the shortage of credible candidates in Gerakan Penang. So, although Mah has announced Teng won’t be fielded as candidate in the coming GE last year, he has no choice but to make a U-turn position to field Teng as candidate in coming GE in the Penang state under the pretext of “challenging LKS to contest against Teng”.
In view of Teng Chang Yeow could be defeated in the coming GE in Penang, I wonder whether fielding Teng Chang Yeow as candidate in Penang state is to finish-off Teng in politics in the coming GE.
I urge Gerakan President Mah Siew Keong to learn to have political courage from Teng Chang Yeow. Mah should contest against LKS in Gelang Patah or any parliamentary seat which will be contested by LKS, to show “leadership by example” in Gerakan.
