MH370 MP briefing: Hisham should stop the flimsy excuses and report to Parliament

Acting transport minister Dato Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is clearly clueless when he says Pakatan Rakyat was not invited for a briefing on the search of MH370 “because they did not ask for one”.

Let me remind the honorable minister that he is a Member of Parliament and a minister. He has a duty as minister to brief Parliament on matters such as this notwithstanding requests made for such briefings.

This is a matter not only of national but also international concern. Surely that in itself would have been sufficient to trigger his mind to the need for Parliament to be briefed and updated on the matter.

In any event, it is strange that the minister doesn’t know that many Pakatan MP’s who have spoken in Parliament since last wednesday have, just like the MP’s from BN, expressed concern over the matter and asked the minister to update Parliament on the progress made the in search operations thus far.

With respect, this is a most flimsy excuse on part of Hishammuddin which just doesn’t make any sense.

The minister should show respect for Parliament and the people of Malaysia. He should not forget that a briefing in Parliament would not just serve to benefit Members of Parliament but all Malaysians and the rest of the world as such a briefing would be open to the public and more importantly form part of the official records of Parliamentary proceedings.

It is surprising that in a most pressing time like this, when leaders are expected to inspire confidence, even simple and basic things like this, the minister doesn’t seem to appreciate nor understand.
