Malaysians hail the 9 judges from the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court for their judgment that convicted former Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of one charge of abuse of power, three for criminal breach of trust and three for money laundering involving RM42 millions of SRC International funds. The prosecutors should also be commended for handling this difficult case with professionalism and expertise.
The Federal Court succinctly concluded that this is a simple and straightforward case of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering. Najib has been sentenced to 12 years jail and fined RM210 million or serve a further five years. Najib still must face four other trials relating to 1MDB involving RM6.64 billion and SRC International involving RM27 million.
However, Najib’s principal financial architect Jho Low remains at large. DAP urges the Malaysian government to redouble efforts to nab Jho Low, his family and associates connected with the RM52 billion 1MDB scandal to bring justice to 32 million Malaysians robbed by the biggest heist in history. Whilst Najib is facing his day in court, it is manifestly unfair and a travesty of justice that Jho Low, his family and associates connected with the scandal are allowed to roam free.
No expense or effort should be spared to bring to book Jho Low, his family and associates connected with robbing Malaysians of tens of billions of ringgit in the 1MDB scandal. The government should make a progress report on the status of capturing this most wanted criminal in Malaysia.
