Sabahan urged to bury “frog hopping” political culture in Sabah – DAP

We strongly condemn and criticize the “frogmhopping” politics of Likas assemblyman Wong Hong Jun (Junz Wong) who led a small group of party members to quit DAP with the intention to join another local party.

They will pay painful price for their arrogance and mistake. They have betrayed those who voted for DAP in the last general election. No matter what the reason may be, they can never justify their betrayal, nor can they avoid the people’s questions or rationalize their “frog hopping” behaviour. This is a culture most hated by people of Sabah and this culture must be ‘buried’ for the sake of Sabah.

We would like to reiterate that the majority of voters in Likas had voted for DAP in the last election, therefore the elected assemblyman must abide by the oath of loyalty to voters, adhering to the concept and principles of the party. They must resign if they are to quit the party or “jump” to another party as they have betrayed the voters, there is no ambiguity!

If Wong does not agree with the ideology and principles of DAP, why did he contest in the last election under the banner of DAP?

If they cannot even truly understand the very basis of democratic principles, and do not respect the wishes and will of voters, they are not even worthy to say they are concerned for Sabah.

For our part, we DAP Sabah solemnly stress that our leaders and members are Sabahan who are native-born Sabah and have defended the rights and interests of Sabah for many years, and launched a number of practical programs to help and pledge to reform Sabah so that Sabah gets its autonomy and equality. The efforts of DAP Sabah are clear and obvious to all.

History teaches us a great lesson, those with “frog hopping” personalities who often ignore the sacred trust of the people use different excuses and reasons to defend their own interests, will eventually be rejected by the voters and eliminated from history. These kind of politicians undermine the very basic of democratic concept and principles and they are the biggest enemies of Sabah democracy!

Back in 2013, when Dr Hiew King Cheu was rumoured to quit DAP, Junz Wong had issued a statement against Hiew for his betrayal to voters and urged Hiew to resign from his position of Luyang assemblyman.

Now, we would like to apply the same standard on Junz Wong by urging him to resign from the position of Likas assemblyman immediately.

Over 50 years of DAP’s history, we have adhered to the concept and principles of reformation, we did not give up nor did we compromise. We are willing to cooperate based on common ideals, but it should be bound to a pre-condition of sincerity. Otherwise, we will adhere to our principles and fight to the very end of the battle.

Lastly, we would like to express our profound and sincere apologies to the voters of Likas. We are very sorry but the resignation of Junz Wong from DAP does not mean that DAP cannot or will not continue to serve the people in Likas.

We pledge to continue to serve the people and fight for their interests. We want to firmly emphasize that we will not give up, we will continue the struggle to strive for fairness and social justice for the people, to defeat the corrupt BN government and promise to build a better future for all Sabahans.
