Tengku Sarifuddin Tengku Ahmad should not simply make announcements on behalf of or relating to ROS which are contrary to the concession reached

The Prime Minister’s press secretary Tengku Sarifuddin Tengku Ahmad says the DAP should focus on its “serious predicament” with regard to using its logo in the next general election.

He is quoted as saying that the DAP does not know whether they will be allowed to use their infamous rocket logo in the coming general elections and that the Registrar of Societies does not currently recognise the validity of DAP’s central executive committee.

We will not be cowed by the press secretary to the Prime Minister. Who is he to speak on behalf of the ROS?

He has got his facts wrong. He should take advice from the lawyers who represented the ROS in a suit brought by the DAP against it in 2014 where ROS through their lawyers conceded that what was conveyed to the DAP by the ROS in a letter was merely advice and was not legally binding on the party and that the ROS recognises that the DAP CEC elected on 29.9.2013 may carry out all its powers, functions and duties in the administration of the daily affairs of the DAP in accordance with the Constitution of the DAP.

The CEC has acted in accordance with this until now. It has administered the party for the last 4 years without any directions from the ROS to the contrary.

I must therefore advise the Press Secretary to be very careful. He should not simply make announcements on behalf of or relating to ROS which are contrary to the concession reached. He has no right to do that.
