The brutal assault and alleged sodomy of teenager T. Nhaveen last Friday has shocked the nation and must be investigated thoroughly for justice to be done not only for him but also his family.
I was deeply saddened when I visited him and his family together with Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer yesterday evening at the Penang General Hospital and our prayers and thoughts are with him and the family during this very difficult time.
I am made to understand that Nhaveen, who hails from Taman Tun Sardon in Seri Delima, which is a part of Bukit Gelugor, was abducted by a group of former schoolmates when he went to a burger stall in the said Taman Tun Sardon late Friday night after work with his friend, Previin for supper. I am further informed Previin was also assaulted at the said burger stall but managed to escape and is now also warded at the Penang General Hospital and is recovering from his injuries. Our prayers and thoughts are also with him and it is hoped that he will recover soon.
The incident is most vile and seems to have been unprovoked. It is not merely a case of ragging or bullying as widely reported but quite possibly one of attempted murder, particularly when it appears as though Nhaveen was overwhelmed by the number of his assailants. Furthermore, there seems to be evidence of injuries indicative of sodomy which must also be investigated. The extent of Nhaveen’s severe injuries suggests his assailants were well aware that their actions could possibly result in his death which is something that cannot be ruled out at this stage.
Of equal importance are the investigations into Previin’s case who was clearly assaulted and is currently traumatised from the incident.
In the circumstances, the police are urged to thoroughly investigate the incident from all angles including, but not limited to, the attempted murder and sodomy of Nhaveen and grevious assault of Previin apart from rioting.
Last but not least and needless to say, YB Rayer and myself are prepared to render any form of assistance to the families and once again wish to express our solidarity with them during this very difficult time.
