Despite pledges dating back to the Government Transformation Plan (GTP) in 2009, the Federal Government, PEMANDU and SPAD (Land Public Transport Commission) have failed to implement a common ticketing system for all public transport in the Klang Valley.
Public transport users today have to struggle with different transport operators using different payment systems, especially across the multiple bus operators in the Klang Valley. While the Touch n’ Go system in Malaysia has implemented on the rail networks in the Klang Valley, it has yet to be rolled out on all the public buses.
Morover, public transport users in Malaysia and especailly the Klang Valley still do not have a proper monthly pass system, that covers unlimited usage of public transport across all operators for a fixed monthly or weekly fee, allowing the user to move freely between different modes of transportation without hindrance.
Nearly all modern cities in the world has adopted such common ticketing systems. Examples range from the Octopus Card in Hong Kong, Oyster in London, the MetroCard in New York and so on. These cards allow the user to pay for transportation throughout the city, and includes options for affordable weekly or monthly unlimited travel passes.
DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) calls on chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar to take this matter seriously, and to publicly set a timeline where public transport users can look forward to properly integrated fare system.
