Will MACC investigate Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz or raid Kota Baru Municipal Council for abuse of power over his daughter’s wedding?

News reports disclose that the MACC had raided the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) on September 19, believed to be regarding a flood barrier project. Will the MACC investigate PAS Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz or raid KBMC for abuse of power over his daughter’s wedding just as MACC has done with the MBSA?

KBMC Council President Rosnazli Amin in Kelantan has confirmed receiving a request for cooperation from Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz. In a letter signed by Nik Abduh dated 20 September, Nik Abduh had asked for KBMC’s cooperation to provide waste management services, tables, chairs, and flower decorations for his daughter’s wedding today. The event would have been held on 24 September in the car park of Masjid Tok Guru and Sekolah Menengah Agama (Arab) Darul Anuar.

However, Rosnazli has piqued public interest by refusing to confirm a simple question as to whether KBMC had approved the request for cooperation by Nik Abduh. Nik Abduh’s request for cooperation from KBMC gives rise to disturbing questions of abuse of power when Nik Abduh used his official letterhead as Bachok MP. Nik Abduh should explain what he meant by requesting cooperation from KBMC for his daughter’s wedding.

Normally these services from local councils can be provided for a fee or at specified rental rates that are offered to all. Nik Abduh did not offer to pay any fees or rental rates in his official letter. There is no need for Nik Abduh to use his official letterhead and status of Bachok MP to seek KBMC’s cooperation for a private family event not related to his public duty to his voters.

That is why MACC should investigate Nik Abduh and possibly raid KBMC to see whether there is any abuse of power by Nik Abduh or whether KBMC is trying to cover up co-operation provided by KBMC as requested by Nik Abduh. MACC must show that it does not practice double standards between KBMC and MBSA.
