Will the police force assure and guarantee that public safety will be utmost priority during the racist September 16th rally on Malaysia Day?

It is utterly irresponsible and hypocritical that the top leadership of UMNO especially the key ministers are encouraging the racist September 16th red shirt rally and should be seriously condemned.

The irresponsible statement by UMNO leaders such as Jamal Md Yunos on not being able to control the crowd in the event the rally participants go amok due to ’emotions’ should be condemned and the police must take his statements seriously as it is detrimental to public safety.

DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) will never question the right to peaceful assembly as it is guaranteed by the federal constitution. However, we urge the police force to assure and guarantee public safety in the whole of Kuala Lumpur especially during the Malaysia Day public holiday.

The general public including the Muslim community are currently fearful over the proposed rally and no one dares to come to Kuala Lumpur areas during the public holiday. The rally organisers have failed to acknowledge that provocative rallies such as this may just instill fear into the general public including Muslims, cause unnecessary racial disharmony as well as affecting the local economy. This also ruins the spirit of Malaysia day where unity among Malaysians is needed the most especially during these trying times.

Once again, DAPSY urges the police force to come out in public to assure and guarantee the safety of the general public during the period of the proposed racially motivated rally for the sake of the safety of Malaysians as well as tourists.
