The six state polls in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu early next month are not just about who are going to be State Governments in these states for the next five years, they are also about whether we can save Malaysia from becoming a divided, failed and corrupt state in the coming decades.
It is not only about the future of Banting and Selangor, it is about the future of Malaysia and that of our children and children’s children.
The Anwar unity government is the last chance in Malaysia to save Malaysia and to reset and return to the original nation-building principles for a plural Malaysia which the nation’s founding fathers (which included the first three Prime Ministers of Malaysia who were also UMNO Presidents) have written into the Malaysian Constitution and the Rukun Negara.
Unfortunately, we deviated from these original nation-building principles for a plural Malaysia in the last few decades, as we are set on the trajectory of a divided, failed and corrupt state in the coming decades.
The Anwar unity government is not going to collapse immediately even if the worst happens in the six state elections next month, but it will mark the end of the great effort to save Malaysia from being a divided, failed and corrupt state in the coming decades.
It will be the end of the great effort to save Malaysia to make Malaysia great again and for Malaysians be world champions again, and furthermore, to ensure that Malaysia be the role model of the world in inter-ethnic, inter-religious, inter-cultural and inter-civilisation dialogue, understanding, tolerance and harmony.
No political party or person is perfect, and there are weaknesses, mistakes and failings in the Pakatan Harapan unity government in Selangor. But these weaknesses, mistakes and failings can be corrected if the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition is re-elected, for we want to see Selangor and Malaysia become a better place with good governance and reducing the inequalities and injustices in society.
But if the Perikatan Nasional (PN) of PAS and Bersatu succeeds in toppling the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition in Selangor next month, these weaknesses, mistakes and failings will not be rectified, for the state will be set in the trajectory of a divided, failed and corrupt future.
It is for this reason that I call on the voters of Banting and Selangor to help provide the lead to save and transform Malaysia into a world-class nation with Malaysians as world champions again, for we have the makings to be a great country if we are united in purpose and action.
A Malaysian won the Oscar recently, and we want to win back the Thomas Cup, shine at Olympic events, having the best schools, universities, hospitals and best political and economic systems to build a progressive, just and prosperous Malaysia for all Malaysians.
I was somewhat worried about Selangor before I came to this dinner, but seeing the big crowd of supporters tonight I am somewhat assured.
But as the Chinese saying goes, we are not afraid of “It Wan” but we fear “Wan It”.
The only way to ensure that the “Wan It” of having a Bersatu or PAS as the Selangor Menteri Besar next month is to have a high voter turnout in Selangor – greater than the 15th national general elections last year or even the 14th general election in 2018.
I therefore call on all voters in Banting and Selangor, regardless of race, religion, age or gender, to come out to vote and to get the outstation voters to return home to Save Selangor and Malaysia!
