Can the six state polls in Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu on August 12 be a clean and honest one, and not drowned in a tsunami of lies, falsehood, fake news and hate speech?
To ensure that the six state polls is a clean and honest one, and as a lesson to the world that in the era of social media, it is possible not to be drowned in a tsunami of lies, falsehoods, fake news and hate speech, I propose that all contesting parties and candidates in the six state polls enter into an agreement not to exploit the 3R issues and to set up a mechanism to expose lies, falsehood, fake news and hate speech in the election campaign.
The mechanism should allow any political party, candidate or person to lodge a complaint about any lie, falsehood, fake news or hate speech during the election campaign and for the complaint to be investigated in the shortest time possible and the publication of the outcome of the investigation.
